To get a better understanding of how employees feel about engagement in their workplace, we surveyed 192 respondents in September 2022. We asked them about work-life balance, productivity, recognition and more.

15% of people do not feel engaged at work π

When it comes to people who are engaged at work… π

How engagement impacts the workplace…πͺ
π Almost 90% of people feel that being more engaged at work increases productivity
π Over 90% of people feel that being more engaged at work increases customer satisfaction

π€ 82% of people feel that being more engaged at work decreases absenteeism

Recognition in the workplace… ππ π¬
Only 30% of people say they frequently receive recognition at work. Almost 20% of people said they never, or almost never, receive any recognition. π
When asked βHow do you currently receive recognition at work?β mixed answers were given, with the majority of people selecting βverbal praiseβ:

What is important to employees? π€
When asked what is most important to them at workβ¦
- over 65% of people said salary & benefits are most important. π΅
- Almost 20% said learning & development is most important. π
- And the remaining 15% said the most important thing was that the company culture aligned with their own values. π
Relationships with colleagues are important for engagement too. When asked how they would like to improve relationships with co-workers, most people (60%) selected team lunches. π Other responses were:
- Team building activities (40%) π³
- After-work drinks (38%) π»
- A retreat (29%) π
- Virtual gatherings (16%) π₯

Work-life balance π€―
An incredible 96% of respondents said that work-life balance is important to them. And yet, 84% of people said they have experienced burnout in the workplace. π₯΅
There are several different barriers to work-life balance:
- Almost 60% of people said their excessive workload is their biggest barrier to work-life balance. π
- 46% of people said that their own perfectionism was preventing them from achieving a better work-life balance π€
- 35% blamed their company culture. π ββοΈ
When asked how work-life balance could be improved, most people (51%) selected flexible working hours.
